How much could leaky faucets cost me?

I have a couple faucets that are for some reason starting to leak.

One of them leaks when you turn it on (leaks from the handle) and the other leaks a bunch when I don't use it.

This has been going on for a while and I'm wondering just around how much money is wasted from this. My parent are going to try to get a plumber, but since they wait too long to call one up, more money is ''going down the drain''.

you can fix the problem yourself ............the one leaking from the handle probably just needs an O ring you can but them for 2.00 at home depot. and the 2nd one may need a seet washer, the seet , or both and they cost 20/40 depending on which one you have so you may replace the whole faucet cheaper ......................and your water bill may be about an extra 40.00 for 2 months ...........the home depot has pamplets that show you how to do it the pamplets are free the plumber will cost you about 350.00

First what type of faucets are they,With the one that leaks from the handle I'm assuming is a single handle faucet most have a O ring and a small kit that includes all the hardware would probably cost $10 at the most for that. And as far as the one that constantly leaks chances are its what is called a seat & spring. They look like a small rubber cup.depending on the faucet,it will be located under the cartridge or ball and there will be one for hot and one for cold.Bring these parts with you to any hardware store and have them compaired , if you need help, your better off going to a smaller community hardware store, rather to a home depot or lowes. They tend to have a much better faucet repair section than either lowes or depot, because they would rather you buy a complete new faucet from them. For both parts i would say well under $20.As far as money down the drain.true but depending on where you are, water is fairly cheap. When we were shopping around for a energy effiecient front loading washer and was trying to find out home much would we save, the water company told us the rate they charge per 1000 gallons is only 3 dollars.GL hope that helps

DO NOT CALL A PLUMBER!!! They are thieves with LICENSES!!!!!! I am one.HAHAHA!! No really, you dont need me. both of the other answers are kinda correct, but when you replace a part in an old faucet you still have an old faucet. They usually leak again.

Check to make sure your shut off valves under the sinks work!!! Turn them off and if you have no water then just go get two faucets. Save your hands and buy a faucet wrench too.

Get four flexible (metal braided risers) of the appropriate length. And one small container of plumbers putty!!!

Your bill will be about $130.00. A plumber is between $150- $225. a faucet for install. You still get to buy the faucets!!!!!!
