Why do our faucets make a loud noise when we turn on the water?

When we turn on the water, the faucets make a very loud noise. They're not stuck, as they turn on with ease. They just make the noise. We haven't contacted a plumber yet because we're wondering if it's something we can fix ourselves.

-I don't know if this has anything to do with it but we do have hard water where we live.

if happening to all faucets i doubt its loose washers. you may need to have an air hammer installed on supply line. you can buy from home depot an air hammer or just cut in a tee and install an 18 inch piece of copper with a dead end cap in the vertical position.

thats called a hammering afect..the pipe needs to be checked from one end to the other to make sure that it is well secured..if not secured right..when you turn on the water the pipes jump and there could be air in the line..let it run awhile and if the noise stops then it was air.if not.check it to make sure it's secured//then you could have water surge from your supplier..good luck..fix it=buy new facet and check the items i talked about.good luck

loose washers on faucets can make a hammer type noise @ times.... these are easy to repair and or replace....just make sure the water is off........
