Also I never found anything saying what order I should turn the water back on so that I don't have undue pressure to my pipes when turning on faucets.
Or is all of this just a moot point? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
There isn't really a particular order but you need to turn off the main, then turn on all faucets to get water out of the supply lines completely. It is easy to determine that as the faucets will initially flow..then stop pretty quickly. After you are finished, it doesn't matter the order either..but it is a good idea to turn them all on to get the air out of the lines again.
There is No order that needs to be followed. Just shut the water off and open anything you can in and out of the hose. Then turn everything off again before you turn the water back on. When the water is on again you may see discolored water for a few seconds at the fixtures and probably alot of air will bleed out. this is all very normal and basic. What you have to understand is that water supply pipes are not installed like drain pipes, they run on a gravity flow principal. Supply pipes are pressurized and go up and down and in all different directions. So opening one faucet even at the lowest point wont always get all the water out. This is why you open everything you can when draining the system to get the most water out you can, because there is not pressure behind the water to push it out. But seriously, basic, basic, simple, simple. Just do it!
if you open the lowest faucet it will drain the rest of the house.
I would say after turning the mains off, open the lowest faucet, then open the one your working on, that will drain the water from that section, When turning the water back on leave one of the faucets slighty open to clear the air from the pipes
